Last year Getty Images picked around 100,000 images from selected Flickr contributors. Now gates are open for everyone and there are 40 million images to choose from. Every contributor can have now license request button next to any image on Flickr. Anyone interested in licensing your photos can let Getty Images know by using the “Request to License” link which will show under the license on your photo page. An editor will review the request and send you a FlickrMail. You can then approve or deny the request. Once a photo has been accepted, it will automatically be added to the Getty Images Flickr Collection.
Popular web-based photo editing service Picnik was acquired by Google. Picnik does a great job of cropping and touching up photos, and it comes with a lot of fun effects. It looks like nothing changes today. They will keep supporting existing partners, including Flickr and Facebook. I just wonder how they going to merge it with with Picasa?
12 of my pictures on Flickr were invited to Getty Images. Unfortunately due to exclusive agreement proposal I was able to submit on two of them. Both were proved and are now on sale at Getty Images.
Flickr added the ability to share a slideshow with other users. Just click the Share link when viewing any slideshow on Flickr. You get two options: a URL that links to the slideshow you’re viewing or HTML code that will let you embed a smaller version on your web page.
Flickrfs makes uploading to, downloading from, and organizing a Flickr account just like handling files in a mounted file system. After installing and setting up the link to your account, you can see all your photos separated into tag folders, edit and back up the pics and their metadata, and crop and resize photos on the fly, all reflected in realtime in your online account.
DisplayFusion is application for stretching wallpaper images across your two PC monitors. It can also search for and load wallpaper images from Flickr. This new version is much more stable, and includes hotkeys for moving windows between monitors. DisplayFusion requires the free .NET runtime, and the free version is slightly limited—it doesn’t include customizable hotkeys and timed wallpaper changes. (The upgrade will set you back 10 bucks).
